Job description: Position: APS5 Actuary / AnalystTalent International is looking for an APS5 Actuary to join one of their Federal Government clients for a 12 month contract based in Sydney paying $55.24ph + super.Key Responsibilities: As an APS5 Actuary / Analyst (Professional Stream), your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Supporting the Scheme Actuary Division in fulfilling statutory requirements, including providing data and analysis for reporting to the Board, Minister, and public data sharing.
- Utilising statistical and mathematical modelling techniques to perform analytical tasks, including actuarial monitoring and analyses, data tabulations, scheme projections, and cost-benefit analyses.
- Analysing Scheme experience to inform the assumption setting process for Scheme projections and other cost analyses.
- Assisting in developing, maintaining, and running Scheme projection models (including scenario testing and stochastic modelling), public dashboards, deep dives, policy costings, and risk assessments.
- Analysing, understanding, and manipulating outputs and effectively communicating them to stakeholders.
- Preparing tables, charts, and commentary for inclusion in the AFSR, QRDM, Board papers, and other reporting.
- Extracting, cleansing, and preparing data from multiple sources, particularly the data warehouse, and advising on appropriate data checks for reasonableness.
- Undertaking ad hoc modelling requests and report production.
- Communicating the progress of work responsibilities and outcomes effectively, both verbally and in writing.
Essential Criteria:
- Experience: 2 to 4 years of experience in the actuarial, data analytics, or scientist industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in R and Excel (model design, development, and maintenance), some experience with GLMs or GBMs, excellent numerical ability, problem-solving aptitude, and proficiency in statistical modelling.
- Qualifications: Relevant academic qualifications, including tertiary qualifications in Actuarial Studies or Mathematics/Statistics, and progressing towards Associate and/or Fellowship qualifications.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Experience with internal and external stakeholder engagement and management.
- Communication Skills: Proficient in communicating and presenting assumptions, methodologies, and results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Programming Skills: Proficient in programming languages such as SAS, R, Python, Visual Basic, or SQL.
Desirable Criteria:
- Some experience or knowledge of government processes (budget, legislation, policy development, briefs/documents).
- Ability to understand and formulate policies, with good communication skills.
