Staff Consultant – Image Scientist

The selected candidate will provide imagery science support specifically related to the exploitation of Multi/Hyper-Spectral imagery to assist in the optimizing the collection and exploitation of various types of imagery data. The imagery scientist duties also include applying Multi/Hyper-Spectral programming techniques and capabilities to mission issues, as well as investigating innovative and emerging technologies to incorporate into analysis. Evaluation of commercial, academic, and outside approaches and algorithms, refinement, development of measures of effectiveness, improvements to system capabilities, and creation of new procedures is commonplace. Formal and informal written reports and briefings are necessary to capture plans, schedules, status updates and results.

What You’ll Do:

  • Apply image processing and scientific analysis of Multi/Hyper-Spectral imagery, knowledge of image formation, and phenomenology.
  • Scientific processing of various imagery types from National, Civil, and Commercial imaging systems, using techniques, algorithms, and scientific analysis of imagery data processing in ENVI IDL, R, and Python.
  • Lead mission analysis efforts of variety of remote sensing architectures within a small team.
  • Guide and/or set architecture, system and/or component requirements.
  • Prepare and give presentations to peers/management/customers.
  • Provide mentorship to junior analysts in mission analysis and/or modeling and simulation techniques.
  • New business support in the form of proposal writing and/or cost/schedule estimation.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units and Strategic Support Units.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and oral presentations.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships within the department, the Strategic Business Units, Strategic Capabilities Units and the Company. Interact appropriately with others in order to maintain a positive and productive work environment.
  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What You’ll Need:

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 16 or more years related experience.
  • Each higher-level degree, i.e., Master’s Degree or Ph.D., may substitute for two years of experience. Related technical experience may be considered in lieu of education. Degree must be from a university, college, or school which is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education, US Department of Education.
  • MS/MA degree in a relevant field preferred.
  • Experience in applied image processing and scientific analysis of Multi/Hyper-Spectral imagery, knowledge of image formation, and phenomenology.
  • Additional experience includes scientifically processing various imagery types from National, Civil, and Commercial imaging systems, proficiency with techniques, algorithms, and scientific analysis of imagery data processing using ENVI IDL.
  • Experience in programming languages such as IDL, R, and Python.
  • Experience performing image processing using image processing tools such as ENVI.
  • Experience with GOTS applications such as FSTK and AGITK preferred.
  • Customer Relationships: Extensive knowledge of missions and customers across core technologies areas. Knowledge/experience working with critical customer base and experienced at establishing relationships with key personnel within customer community.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary teams in relevant business environments.
  • Superb presentation skills with experience presenting technical results to senior customers and technical review meetings.
  • Ability to interface with technicians, peers, senior-level engineers, business development, management.
  • Ability to contribute to the success of small teams through excellent leadership and teamwork.

On-Site Work Environment: This position requires regular in-person engagement by working on-site five days each normally scheduled week in the primary work location. Travel a​nd local commute between Ball campuses and other possible non-Ball locations may be required.

A security clearance or access with Polygraph is not required to be eligible for this position. However, the applicant must be willing and eligible for submission, depending on program requirements, after an offer is accepted and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance/access.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • HIRING SALARY RANGE: $173,000 – $218,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
