Operating within OGIA, this particular position will support and lead multi-disciplinary projects and investigations that underpin subsurface impact assessments from coal seam gas (CSG) and mining development in Queensland.

Key Duties and Accountabilities

  • Scientific assessment

– Independently manage and manipulate large multidisciplinary scientific data sets for regional scale assessments by identifying, utilising and developing appropriate tools.

– Undertake complex scientific analysis, compile results and draw meaningful conclusions with minimal supervision.

– Maintain a high level of expertise in a specific science area relevant to the work of OGIA.

– Identify science questions to address specific issues in hand and develop fit for purpose techniques and methodologies.

– Design and lead scientific projects of medium complexity with minimal supervision.

  • Reporting and Communication

– Prepare high quality technical reports, presentations, workflows, documentation and memos with minimal guidance.

– Write articles and technical papers for journals and conferences.

– Present findings to scientific communities and stakeholders.

– Support leadership team on community and stakeholders’ engagement.

– Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with clients and project teams.

  • Leadership and project/program management

– Lead, motivate, guide and empower a small team cohort of scientists.

– Manage scientific projects of medium complexity, including budgeting and procurement.

– Support the leadership team in the overall assessment and management of subsurface impacts of water extraction by the resources industry.

  • Other duties as directed and required.

Role requirements

  • A degree qualification in a relevant field such as geosciences, hydrogeology, groundwater modelling, geomechanical modelling, hydrology, engineering, remote sensing, surveying, data sciences or applied science is a mandatory requirement.
