We are currently looking for a Senior Scientist with experience in Molecular/Synthetic Biology and Mammalian Cell Culture to complement our Vectorology R&D team in Cambridge. In this role, you will be working on projects that create CHO cell lines and gene expression platforms with enhanced performance characteristics.

You will be working within a team of scientists with a diverse range of skills and experience across a range of fields including cell and molecular biology, mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein expression, protein engineering, and cell engineering. In this role you will have the opportunity to join an innovative high-performance team that will develop new and emerging technologies in the field of biologics manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generation of novel vector platforms incorporating panels of synthetic genetic elements for enhancing cellular production capabilities
  • Testing of next generation vector systems in a transient and stable context including high level expression of complex biological molecules in fed-batch cultures
  • Collate, analyse, evaluate and sign-off data to produce high quality information and records
  • Work closely with other groups within R&D to deliver solutions or improvements in recombinant protein expression
  • 80% lab based role

Key requirements and skills:

  • PhD in Life Sciences/ Molecular Biology/ Biotechnology, together with practical experience in an industrial setting
  • R&D technological background in molecular biology, and relevant mammalian cell culture techniques
  • Key cell culture techniques desired include CHO cell culture, transient expression, and stable pool generation, fed-batch culture
  • Key molecular biology skills desired include gene cloning and vector construction including Golden Gate/ Gibson assembly and experience in the use of suitable software packages such as SnapGene or Lasergene
  • Extensive molecular biology experience in methods such as; gene cloning, expression vector design and manipulation, DNA extraction and purification, PCR/qPCR, gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE and Western blotting
  • Experience with DNA regulatory elements (e.g. promoters, insulators) is highly advantageous
  • Experience with different nucleofection systems, automation and liquid handling equipment and evaluation of cell lines by flow cytometry is advantageous
  • Evidence of innovation and solution-finding in a scientific setting
