About the Role:

We are seeking for an experienced engineer with a strong background in Dams, Civil, Geotechnical, and Structural engineering disciplines. In this role, you will provide essential technical support within the Dams engineering area, focusing on delivering expert level analysis, design reviews, and governance across all facets of water and wastewater standards and infrastructure. Your expertise will be crucial in reviewing designs, with a particular emphasis on dams’ safety and their overall structural integrity .

Additionally, you will collaborate closely with SA Water’s Engineering, Asset Management, Operations, Procurement, Capital Planning and Delivery, and Major Land Development departments. Your expertise will also extend to working with specialist professional and technical staff, project managers, contract administrators, and engineering consultants and contractors. We value your ability to forge strong partnerships with equipment suppliers and coordinate efforts with other government agencies.

Your responsibilities for this opportunity:

  • Contribute to top-level WHS performance company-wide.
  • Promote and facilitate Safety in Design (SID) to enhance safe design outcomes and consult on risk minimisation throughout the asset life cycle while demonstrating safety leadership
  • Provide specialised design and technical oversight for SA Water projects, focusing on quality, time, and budget compliance
  • Develop expertise in Dams engineering, covering both concrete and earth dams, and contribute to safety reviews and upgrades aligned with ANCOLD requirements
  • Provide technical leadership in Safety in Design (SiD) and collaborate with Engineering Management to enhance the Dams team’s technical capabilities while ensuring the integration of the “Safety in Design” process into engineering activities
  • Deliver timely and cost-effective information and documentation to customers, minimising delays
  • Proactively identify and implement value-added initiatives to meet customer needs within the Dams, Civil, and Geo-Technical discipline team, including conducting necessary training or workshop presentations
  • Lead technical engagement with business partners through discipline forums, ensure prompt, accurate information delivery, and collaborate with stakeholders to meet their expectations for engineering outcomes

Your success in this role will come from:

  • Tertiary Dams, Civil or Geotechnical Engineering qualification (Essential)
  • Post graduate qualifications (Desirable)
  • Affiliation and Recognition of discipline expertise by Engineers Australia (Desirable)
  • Detailed knowledge of Dams engineering (or similar relatable and associated field) procedures and practices as applied to the water industry and large engineering organisations and leading expert function (Essential)
  • Extensive experience in the provision of investigation, option, concept, and detailed design of infrastructure associated with the water industry (including both concrete and earthen dams, or similar related field) at a high professional level, and auditing of designs prepared by others (Essential)
  • Experienced in the practical application of ANCOLD guidelines, and risk management of dam safety projects (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience in the execution of novel, complex and critical engineering investigations, and designs in the Dams discipline, or similarly related and associated field (Essential)
  • Experienced in the development and ongoing review of technical and infrastructure standards (Essential)
