The Scientist is part of the Building Systems group that provides research, technical service, and transfer of knowledge and technology to the wood design, construction, and manufacturing industry. Under the supervision of the Building Systems Manager, the Scientist will develop sustainable solutions to industry challenges by fostering ground-breaking research and technological advances. With the support from FPInnovations, the Scientist is expected to become the expert in wood-based building systems.


  • Conduct research for Building Systems group to develop innovative and practical solutions to problems.
  • Perform computer simulations using advanced finite element software.
  • Design and conduct experimental studies followed by data analysis.
  • Write engineering reports with professional drawings.
  • Present research results with visual aids.
  • Manage projects on time and on budget.
  • Interact and communicate effectively and professionally with industry, clients, and suppliers.


  • Master’s degree in structural and earthquake engineering with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience and hold a P.Eng. designation
  • Experienced in structural design and analysis, preferably in wood
  • Experienced in earthquake engineering simulation using commercial & research software
  • Experienced in laboratory testing such as static, cyclic, dynamic, hybrid


  • Knowledgeable in programming such as MATLAB, C++, Python
  • Knowledgeable in real-time control using software such as LabVIEW
  • Self-motivated and work well independently as well as collaboratively in a team
  • Opened minded to innovations and creativity
  • Attention to detail, quality, and safety.
