Job description: This position will also cover North Adams Regional Hospital.


Point of Care Coordinator oversees point of care testing activities for the laboratory and ensures quality standards and regulatory compliance with CAP, CLIA, and/or TJC. Prepares and maintains POC operating procedures and supports established test performance by performing quality control, linearity studies, reagent validation studies, method comparisons, and maintenance protocols. Acts as liaison between the laboratory and the testing sites, and regulatory agencies. Assists nursing educators, physicians, other healthcare workers in the development of staff training for all personnel performing POCT. Assures all POC testing users are competent and compliant. Organizes and maintains all appropriate inventory and supplies for POC testing. Evaluates and sets up new POC testing and equipment. Assures POC proficiency testing is performed in accordance to regulatory standards. Responsible for visiting various laboratory sites and offices to inspect POC testing protocols, quality control and competency. Will perform bench work as needed and will work weekends and holidays on rotation in a clinical department.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum qualifications are required unless stated otherwise.)


-Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or equivalent with at least 3 years of clinical laboratory experience. One year of clinical training acceptable.

Education and Training:

-Bachelor`s degree in laboratory science.

License, Certification & Registration:

MT/CLS – Certified Medical Technologist/Clinical lab Scientist thru ASCP or NCA

DRIVER – Driver’s License

Other Requirements:

-Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required.
-Independent judgment and initiative required to schedule, organize, and plan work.
-Prepares cost analysis for POC program.
-Works with the LIS staff to ensure proper interface connections.
-Collects data on quality and safety incidents related to POC testing.
-Prepares periodic reports to laboratory leadership on performance, volume, accreditation readiness and other performance metrics.
-Develops test documentation and training forms for the sites performing POC testing.
-Ability to work into a weekend and/or holiday rotation as necessary.
