Job title: PhD “Energy Saving for Intent Based Management ” M/F

Company: Orange

Job description: about the roleYour role is to perform PhD work on the topic: “Energy Saving for Intent Based Management”Global context and problematic of the subject:Thanks to digitalization in the industry and society, new markets will open for business services or more generally for what are called verticals (vehicles, health, etc.). The ability to divide the network into potentially isolated slices while benefiting from the economies of scale made possible using a shared infrastructure plays a key role in 5G, which sets it apart from previous mobile generations. The challenge is to be able to make it easier to negotiate services in this context, via intent-based negotiation.Indeed, while we are used to monitoring network performance and matching it to an expected level of QoS, for example, it is important to assess to what extent an intention is fulfilled and the necessary means to evaluate the quality of the intention’s actuation. Moreover, intentions are not limited to performance issues. In [1], for example, the authors consider intention-based energy monitoring. The goal is to meet clients’ needs in terms of energy efficiency described with natural language or intention. However, Nowadays, operators are making considerable efforts to reduce their carbon footprint and energy consumption. There are tools that provide customers with an indication of the overall carbon footprint when using telecommunication services. However, the customer has no way of influencing the carbon footprint of telecommunication services (the customer is passive). Hence the interest in considering clients’ needs in terms of energy efficiency.Scientific objective – results and challenges:The thesis aims to develop the mechanisms and solutions necessary to meet customer needs in terms of energy efficiency. In this PhD you:

  • Work on a modeling of commercial intention and the service model
  • Include the “Energy by Design” of the intention-based management architecture of TMForum.
  • Meet clients’ intentions regarding energy savings.
  • Translate clients’ intentions for each layer (business, service, resource).
  • Design new services where the client is more active in energy consumption when using services (perhaps at the expense of some degradation, but with the client’s consent).
  • Develop tools to keep the client informed of their energy consumption in real-time.
