About the role(s)

MeS3 – Medical Scientist

Contributes to the scientific objectives of the Laboratory and Directorate by performing complex molecular biology techniques for the genetic analysis of cancers; participates in the development of new techniques and in applied research. With supervision, contributes to translational research through the development and application of various sequencing technologies to cancer diagnostic tests.

  • Demonstrate increased professional expertise, competence, and experience to perform standard professional tasks within the discipline.
  • Have attained greater specialised knowledge within the discipline.
  • Provide professional services to client groups in circumstances requiring increasingly complex practice skills.
  • Apply scientific specialist knowledge towards the performance, analysis and troubleshooting of standard diagnostic procedures.
  • Apply professional judgement to select and apply new and existing methods and techniques.
  • Demonstrate expertise obtained through appropriate professional development and operational experience.
  • Responsible for the validation of Quality Control at the supervisory level under the direction of management.

MeS4 – Lead Establishment Scientist

The Lead Scientist will coordinate the scientific and technical establishment of the SA Cancer Genomics Laboratory at SA Pathology, a federally funded 15M project to be completed by the 30th of June 2025.

The Lead Scientist will:

  • Demonstrate high level professional expertise, competence, and experience to perform standard and developing professional tasks within the discipline of cancer genomics.
  • Provide professional services to client groups in circumstances requiring increasingly complex practice skills.
  • Apply scientific specialist knowledge towards the performance, analysis and troubleshooting of genomic diagnostic and research procedures.
  • Apply professional judgement to select and apply new and existing methods and techniques.
  • Help accelerate and improve genomic services at SA Pathology in translational and diagnostic genomics and position SA Pathology for the future.
  • Demonstrate expertise obtained through appropriate professional development and operational experience.
