Job description: Description :Summary:The position requires a dynamic individual with an environmental science, geology, biology, chemistry, or engineering background, along with the ability to work flexible hours (but primarily Monday through Friday, 8 am – 5 pm) and a willingness to travel periodically. The position will be very active and will include a variety of field assignments and office work. Knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, as well as technical writing skills, are a plus. The position requires an individual looking to advance their career opportunities and would like to be involved with a diversity of assignments including, but not limited to, collecting, synthesizing, and documenting data from investigated areas and assisting in the preparation of project documentation. Will provide support for field activities as needed for projects, including field site supervision, excavations, and collection of field samples for laboratory analysis.The pay rate for this position is $35.00/hour-$75.00/hour depending on experience.Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (including but not limited to)
- Conduct and oversee site investigation and assessments following Federal and State regulatory guidelines and as directed by project management staff
- Determine data collection methods to be employed in site surveys and investigations.
- Collect and interpret environmental sampling data and provide field consultations
- Read specifications such as GIS and CAD figures to determine project requirements and to help in planning procedures
- Prepare NEPA-specific technical plans and reports (i.e., record of environmental consideration and categorical exclusions) using Federal and State guidelines
- Assist with NEPA program compliance and track all actions needing environmental review
- Adhere to schedule and financial objectives as specified by project management
- Identify and evaluate corrective actions for individual or groups of sites
- Enhance company and organization reputation by accepting ownership for the team performance and adding value to assigned tasks
- Provide scientific and technical guidance, support, coordination, and/or oversight to project staff preparing written project documentation
- Review and document the processes necessary to obtain environmental permits, licenses, and other requirements necessary to achieve environmental restoration project objectives
- Review and document environmental technical standards, guidelines, policies, and formal regulations to ensure proposals meet all appropriate requirements
- Examine and inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify safety and to ensure that project specifications are met
- Record information such as personnel, production, and operational data on specified forms and reports; communicate with project management
- Prepare charts, graphs, or figures from sample data, providing summary information on the environmental relevance of the data
- Provide client assistance to the program and project manager; scope, schedule, and budget
- Maintain 1-2 areas of technical expertise
- Lead teams performing project tasks, both in the office and field locations
- Technical project execution and document preparation, peer review project documents
- Meeting safety responsibilities and goals
- Achieving quality requirements
- Understanding best management practices as they relate to environmental investigations
- Performing any other duties as assigned by management
- Weekly onsite meetings at the POM DPW offices
- Assist with hazardous materials and hazardous waste program compliance
- Logging, tracking, organizing, and packaging waste; preparing labels and disposal documents
- Perform HAZMAT compliance inspections on-site at the client facility; assist with inventorying on-site HAZMAT
- Operate a forklift to assist with storing hazardous waste properly on-site
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical/Environmental Sciences, Engineering, or a similarly related field
- Three (3) or more years of relevant working experience
- Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record, able to drive company vehicle
- Proficient computer skills using Microsoft Office Suite and databases such as Access
- Adept at explaining technical aspects of fieldwork to internal and external clients verbally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Current 40-Hour HAZWOPER or 8-Hour HAZWOPER Refresher
- CPR/1st Aid Certified
- Experience working on projects with Federal clients
- Forklift Certification
- Professional registration such as PMP, PE, CIH, CSP
- Experience and knowledge of Alaska Native cultures

- Reaching with hands and arms for items above and below sight level, talking, hearing, and seeing (up close, at a distance, along the periphery, with depth, color perception, and the ability to adjust focus); walking from place to place within the project location with occasional use of stairs and no elevator available; bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for up to 12 hours.
