What does a “day in the life” of my new team look like?

The role of a Data Scientist in AMS is to utilize mathematical and statistical methods of data analysis to ensure that the use of machine learning and artificial intelligence, or any other advanced analytics practices, deliver the expected benefit to a project or product.

The role will primarily be supporting cross functional projects through the application of data-driven insights, leveraging expertise in data analysis, statistical modelling and machine learning to extract actionable intelligence from complex datasets.

An AMS Data scientist is also responsible for ensuring that any use of machine learning or artificial intelligence within our products or projects is both appropriate and ethical.

As a Manager, you will support more complex projects or products through the application of data science practices to drive delivery and efficiency.

In addition to technical expertise, you will be responsible for managing resources, setting strategic goals, and ensuring the successful delivery of data-driven insights to drive business outcomes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Partner with stakeholders across different departments to understand their data needs and align projects with business objectives.
  • Collect, clean, and pre-process data from diverse sources to ensure its suitability for analysis.
  • Develop predictive models and algorithms to support decision-making processes and improve business outcomes.
  • Apply statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to extract meaningful insights and patterns from structured and unstructured data.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and consultants to leverage specialized expertise and stay abreast of industry best practices.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, automation, and the integration of new data sources or technologies.
  • Stay updated with emerging trends and advancements in data science and guide the team in adopting relevant methodologies and tools.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to communicate data-driven insights and recommendations to key stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines, ensuring efficient data acquisition, storage, and retrieval.
  • Create visualizations and reports to communicate findings effectively to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with the wider Technology teams to ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Stay up to date with the latest trends and advancements in data science and contribute to the continuous improvement of analytical methodologies.

Skills & Experience

Required:

  • Bachelors in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • In-depth knowledge of statistical modelling, machine learning techniques, and data visualisation.
  • Excellent understanding of data engineering concepts and experience with data integration, ETL processes, and data governance.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and familiarity with relevant data science libraries and frameworks.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks, manage competing demands, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and the ability to translate business requirements into actionable data initiatives.

Desired:

  • Proven experience in leading and managing a team of data scientists or analysts.
