Reporting to the Director, Events and Sponsorships – INVENTURE$, the Business Development Manager is responsible for attendee acquisition, identifying and securing additional revenue sources, managing the client and stakeholder relationships, and maintaining positive and sustainable growth for INVENTURE$. Working with the INVENTURE$ team, this role provides a dedicated professional relationship management component while building key resources to support the successful staging of the event. Client stakeholder engagement and acquisition will be engaged regionally, nationally, and potentially globally.

  • Lead the design and implementation of business development strategies for the effective acquisition of attendees and growth of attendee participation for INVENTURE$.
  • Expand the market access (where attendees are coming from) to diversify our audience from and Alberta/Canada to a more international clientele.
  • Increase participation from attendees, start-ups and pitch competition applicants, industry, venture capitalists and angels, and top-quality panelists and speakers.
  • Develop targeted campaigns to make specific interest groups aware, educate and participate in the event.
  • Independently identify and secure additional revenue sources by proactively seeking out new opportunities for funders and sponsors to contribute both funds, in-kind resources, and people/panelist/volunteers to the event.
  • Build and implement targeted campaigns to attract revenue sources from public and private sources with priorities in technology and innovation, resulting in additional revenue sources and technology, people, and innovative ideas.
  • Lead development and maintenance of relationships with key stakeholders, partners, and sponsors to understand business opportunities, collaborate on business development initiatives, and ensure the sustainability and growth of the conference.
  • Facilitate opportunities to develop and ensure a positive experience for participants, stakeholders, partners, and sponsors.
  • Identify opportunities for improving the event and provide alternatives to address gaps and/or inadequacies for a better overall customer/client experience.
  • Elevate INVENTURE$ to the status of the “must attend event” in Canada, driving pride in their desire to be a part of this special event.
  • As part of the INVENTURE$ team provide market intelligence, customer/client experiences and experienced advice to the development of a long-term strategy for the growth and sustainability of INVENTURE$.
  • Lead initiatives to gather customer/client feedback, monitor and analyze industry market intelligence, emerging trends, and implications on future business development opportunities.

Qualifications and skills we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree Commerce, Business Administration, or related field
  • Minimum 7 years of business, strategic planning, customer relationship management, and sponsorship/revenue acquisition
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience using a comprehensive CRM
  • Valid passport (required)
  • Applied event coordination experience.
  • Demonstrated ability collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, partners, and creative teams.
  • Demonstrated skill in establishing and maintaining good relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong business knowledge, understanding of a variety of business practices, and familiarity with various industries.
  • Experience working within a provincial or federal government department is an asset.
  • Previous leadership experience is an asset.
  • Project Management Professional/Project Management Certification (preferred)
