Position summary

Are you a motivated science professional committed to scientific rigor and best practice? Keen to adapt yourself to an exciting role at the forefront of agvet chemical regulation in Australia?

The Assistant Director Chemical Review will maintain a strong focus on interpreting scientific assessments and preparing complex documents relating to those assessments. As an experienced scientist and senior member of the team, you will also support the Director of Chemical Review in drafting notices, compiling Review Technical Reports, and preparing Statements of Reasons and notices.

Our Ideal Candidate / Selection criteria

To be considered for these roles you will need the following essential criteria: * Tertiary qualifications in agricultural, biological, chemical, or veterinary science.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply comprehensive work knowledge, precedent and established legislation, policy, procedures, and guidelines to situations involving a high level of complexity and sensitivity which require considerable interpretation and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in preparing high-quality written materials for a broad range of audiences, such as scientific reports, documents for public consultation, and briefings to senior management, in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a large degree of independence, under broad direction to research complex issues, analyse data, and solve problems to provide pragmatic solutions.
  • Previous experience managing a small team and/or projects of a technical and specialised nature.
  • Well-developed ability to manage complex and sensitive stakeholder relationships, work together to identify opportunities and facilitate cooperation to achieve outcomes and resolve complex issues.

The following desirable criteria will also be considered:

  • Post-graduate qualifications or relevant experience in scientific or technical disciplines.
  • Experience in using computer modelling programs.
  • Relevant experience with Australian agricultural practices or in a regulatory environment.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
